Martini Nutrition:

If you are trying to lose or mantain your weight, is enjoying a drink so bad? Falling into one of the above catagories, I had to ask myself that question. So I went on line. I ended up at this website: http://www.healthyweightforum.org/ I looked around at a few others to compare. The verdict is that one Martini Cocktail of about 3 oz. of vodka, and a spash of Vermouth is about or under 200 calories. I can live with that.

Discovery:
In Seattle at a bar in a posh hotel we learned about this great drink
This won the annual international contest in Seattle 1997
Like a blue gem the glints like ice in the sun

What you need to make this brilliant drink:
A lot of ice
A clear shaker
crystal clear martini glass
Blue Curacao – Just a few drops
one part Gray Goose or Belvedere
one part Bombay Blue Sapphire
The rind of an orange – use bar tool or a peeler will do

How to make it perfect:
Prepare glasses
fillshaker ¾ full w/ice
add Blue Curacao & shake it up and strain out any extra
add vodka and gin
shake randomly for ten seconds
Pour into glasses
rind the orange and twist to free the essential oil
The oil sprays from the pores letting go the crisp scent of orange

History of the Martini
The most popular belief construes the Martini as a take off the Martinez, whose history (notably independent of the californian town) is equally as obscure. In fact, it so happened the first appearance of the Martini in 1888's "New and Improved Illustrated Bartender's Manual or How to Mix Drinks" by Harry Johnson, mimicked that of the Martinez (an equally neoteric creation). Indeed, the confusion between the two drinks continued throughout late 19th-century bartending manuals. Johnson's book also marked the first occasion the olive, a noted component of the Martini by today's standards, met the drink. He said "an olive or a maraschino cherry". Or my favorite is that the drink was the Martinez, but after 2 or 3 martinezeseses the Z kind of got in the way and was slurred to Martini.
Favorite drinking limericks
1 martini; 2 martini; 3 martini; floor!
I love martinis, two at the most, three I'm under the table, four I'm under the host.
Martini Quotes
As writer and novelist Bernard DeVoto once said "You can no more keep a Martini in the refrigerator than you can keep a kiss there. The proper union of gin and vermouth is ... one of the happiest marriages on earth, and one of the shortest lived."
Mae West: No olives, pelase. They take up the room otherwise occupied by gin.
Groucho Marks: Let me slip out of these wet clothes, and into a dry martini.
