Swedish singer/songwriter Sofia Talvik delivers soothing melodies and emotional vocals with unusually sincere, thought through, intelligent yet provocative lyrics. In 2005 Sofia released "Blue Moon", which took forty intense hours to record and is a collection of songs presented virtually intact from the original live studio sessions. Having earned a reputation as a great live performer, frequently playing at clubs in and around Stockholm and throughout Sweden, this was a great way of introducing Sofia.
The album's unique sound makes it almost timeless, in the sense that it could have been recorded either twenty years ago or twenty years from now.
In January 2007 Sofia Talvik released her second album, "Street of Dreams". It was again written and produced entirely by Sofia herself, who now took it one step further, releasing it on her own label, Makaki Music.
The album's first single, "It's Just Love," is a duet with one of the UK's top indie icons of the last 15 years, legendary guitarist Bernard Butler (producer of Duffy) of the band Suede, and evokes memories of the last great "triumph over adversity" duet, "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, and has gained a lot of airplay in Sweden as well as in other parts of the world.
With "Street of Dreams" Sofia's fanbase grew substantially, making her one of the most interesting new artists on the underground scene just awaiting the big breakthrough.
The new album, "Jonestown", is about to be released in 2008 in Sweden. With "Jonestown" Sofia Talvik has further evolved her sound, joining forces with respected artist and producer Tobias Fröberg, who has toured with and produced the artist Peter Morén from "Peter, Bjorn and John".
Talvik is playing at the Lollapalooza festival and will join headliners Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Kanye West, Wilco, the Raconteurs and more of the world's hottest bands in performing August 1-3 at Chicago's Grant Park.
Talvik, 28, has been steadily building a following from her days as a struggling artist in Stockholm to her recent breakout success across Europe and the U.S., with her unique storytelling prowess and melodic acoustic guitar backed by eclectic, minimalist instrumentation such as cellos, double bass and soft percussion.
